I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned it before on here, but I am a member of the Tallahassee Professional Photographer’s Guild and for the last two years I have sat as a member of the Board. Joining this group was one of the best things I could have done when I started my business. It not only gave me some fabulous education, but I met a whole group of professional photographers who were ready and willing to help me! I have made some great friends through TPPG and love getting together every month where we catch up over yummy food and cocktails, listen to top professionals in the industry, and participate in print competition.
Participating in the print competition can seem scary at first (and sometimes it is – you’re putting yourself out there after all), but it really is the best way to learn. All criticism is constructive and helpful, and no one is ever rude during a critique. Sometimes we get so attached to our work that it’s hard to take a step back to see what we could have done to make the image even better! That’s where print competition comes in. I’ve been really bad about posting my competition winners on the blog, so I’m going to post a few winners from the past as well as this month’s winner.
This image from Krista and Paul’s first look won this month’s Social Function category. As you might expect, I mainly enter the Social Function category since I shoot primarily weddings. And there are usually a ton of beautiful entries in Social Function. I loved, loved, loved the sequence of images from Krista and Paul’s first look and I’m so excited that other professionals felt the same way and chose this image out of a slew of others. This image was taken in the Loggia Hallway in the main house at Pebble Hill Plantation.
Below are other images that have one in the past.
This image won in the category of Open.
I rarely use off camera flash for portraits of the couple, but due to the sunset time I had no choice for Donna and Anthony’s wedding at the Pensacola Yacht Club. I can’t tell you how over the moon I was with this image! The month it was entered it won the Social Function category.
Emily and Nick got married in Coral Springs at Parkland Golf and Country Club. Everything about this location is amazing and I would love to shoot another wedding there!! This image won in the Social Function category.
And this image of Brittany and Chris. Sigh. I love this image of them! It also won in the Social Function category. This image was taken at Pebble Hill Plantation where they had their amazing reception.
Well that’s all I can find on my computer.
