  • Welcome! I'm so excited you made it to my blog! This is where we can truly get to know each other better. I'm a writer by nature and sometimes I think the best way to get to know someone is through their words. Words can connect, move, and inspire people. They are very similar to photographs in that way. So wander around and get to know me better! I hope I can inspire you - just as each one of my clients has inspired me.

Rachel + Shawn {Tallahassee Wedding Photographer}

God works in mysterious ways. When Rachel first contacted me about shooting her wedding, I was already booked {sad!} so I recommended some other photographers to her. A month later my bride moved her wedding date, so I contacted Rachel with absolutely no expectations. I honestly figured she had already hired someone else. But as fate would have it, she hadn’t . . . . her exact reaction? “Fantastic!  No, we have not yet secured a photographer and I am excited to hear you are available again!” That made my heart sing! There is absolutely no better feeling than when a couple wants you to be their photographer because they like YOU and your WORK.:-)

Rachel and Shawn’s wedding day started out with less than ideal conditions. In fact, it was downright pouring. But that didn’t dampen Rachel’s spirits at all. We did her and Shawn’s first look under the protection of her parent’s beautiful covered porch and shortly before the ceremony was to start, the rain stopped and we even had a glimmer of sunlight. As I said, God works in mysterious ways.

Rachel and Shawn had an amazing team of professionals working with them, which is one reason they had no worries. Rachel hired Shannon with Shannon Reeves Events as her month-of coordinator.  Shannon had everything under control, despite the gloomy weather. The backup plan was in place and ready if needed and Shannon had such a calm demeanor that completely resonated with everyone else. And then there was the crazy-awesome Missy with Missy Gunnels Flowers! I literally died when I saw the bouquet she put together for Rachel.

Rachel and Shawn live in Maui {so jealous!} and her mom lives in Monticello, but that didn’t keep them from going dress shopping together. They met in San Francisco where they found Rachel’s beautiful dress.

Oh Missy, you do such beautiful work! I think this is my favorite bouquet ever!!!

The First Look . . .

. . . and Shawn’s personality really coming out!

Rachel and Shawn had traditional Hawaiian leis brought over from Hawaii and exchanged them before the ceremony. I loved that they had this time just for themselves.

Rachel, you look so beautiful!

Rachel wore the same veil her mom wore on her wedding day, and it matched Rachel’s dress perfectly.

The reception was tented outdoors despite the weather. Instead of one type of centerpiece, Missy and Shannon created multiple corresponding looks. I loved the Southern backyard feel of the entire wedding!

Shawn’s niece put together a slideshow for the couple, which was a complete surprise.

 Thank you guys for a wonderful day full of laughter and love! I hope you had a wonderful time in Africa and next time we make it to Maui, I’ll be looking you guys up!:-)

Lighting Bootcamp

April was by far one of the busiest months I’ve had since starting my business. I had back to back weddings (April 14, 15, 21, and 28), a photography workshop in Philadelphia, and my regular job. It’s exhausting just thinking about it again! And although I loved every minute of it, I am just slightly happy that we have moved into May.:-)

But let’s back up to the photography workshop. I attended Cliff Mautner’s Lighting and Skillset Bootcamp in Philadelphia the week of April 16-19. Well, I almost didn’t actually make it, but that’s a whole ‘nother story that I don’t feel like getting into right now. {rolling my eyes}. Cliff’s work is absolutely amazing! He is considered one of the top 10 wedding photographers in the world! He’s also the spokesperson for Nikon and has won many photojournalism awards at WPPI. In Southern terms, Cliff is the “bee’s knees.”

We spent the mornings eating breakfast at Cliff’s studio, getting in depth lessons on his philosophy on lighting, and in the afternoons we headed to popular landmarks in downtown Philadelphia to shoot. On Tuesday, we went to this cute little park to practice shooting in “harsh” light. No more running for shade! The evenings were spent eating delicious meals, drinking wine from Cliff’s collection, and learning more about his business practices.

The week was an overwhelming experience. I learned invaluable knowledge from someone who is not only a leader in this industry, but who is a genuinely all-around nice guy, and to top it all off, I made some new friends. The other photographers there came from such a wide range of backgrounds, and all were inspirational. It was one of the best experiences I have had.

Below are some of the images I took that first day in Philly. Enjoy!

Jennifer {Tallahassee Portrait Photographer}

Jennifer contacted me about doing some head shots for her. She is applying to FSU’s film school, which is one of the most highly-ranked film schools in the country! The students have won thousands of awards and honors, including screenings at the Cannes International and Slamdance Film Festivals and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (“student oscars”). We went to Railroad Square in order to capture Jennifer’s lighthearted and fun attitude. It was a beautiful day, with some beautiful light. And of course Jennifer is absolutely stunning!

Good luck in the future Jennifer! I’m sure I’ll see you doing grand things one day!

Kelly + Kyle {Watercolor Wedding Photographer}

Kelly and Kyle’s wedding was centered around the love they have for each other. They were so happy to be marrying their soul mate that nothing else mattered. As I put this post together, I was reminded of that love with every photo: The smiles on their faces; the way they looked at each other; the gentle way Kyle held Kelly; the emotion from their family and friends. Their love radiated throughout Watercolor and will continue to guide them for many, many years to come.

Thank you both for allowing me to share in your special day!

I love this First Look sequence. Kyle’s reaction may be the best I’ve ever captured during a First Look!

Kelly had such a natural beauty to her. I love these next two images that my assistant Michelle captured!

This may be one of my favorites. LOVE!!!

Throwing in a little personality – seriousness . . . .

and silliness!

Kelly, you are just beautiful! And I love how Kyle adores you!

Congratulations Kyle and Kelly!! I wish you many years of love and happiness!

Thank you to Michelle Coppini for helping me capture Jenna and Joey’s day so beautifully. I love this shot of the church she took for me.

Sally at Florals by the Sea did a beautiful job! I love the color in the bridesmaid’s bouquets!

Jenna, you are stunning!

After the ceremony, we were lucky enough to “borrow” a house in a gated part of Kelly Plantation. The views were beautiful!
